Terremark CASE STUDY: Explore the Future of Data Center Efficiency and Innovation


Data centers consume a great deal of energy. The utility bill for our Miami collocation facility exceeds $1 million per month. Reducing data center energy consumption is good for the ecology and is economically wise as the return on energy reduction investments is often measured in months.

Through real world case studies, we will examine data center energy requirements, methods to reduce consumption, and means to measure the improvement facilitating cost/benefit justification

Ben Stewart has 25 years of military experience as a Commander in the U. S. Coast Guard and retired in 2003. He now holds the position of Senior Vice President, Facility Engineering for Terremark, a Verizon Company and leads a team of professionals who design and build energy efficient mission critical facilities around the world. He is also the company’s Facility Security Officer ensuring all government national security requirements are satisfied. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Monmouth University. He is currently pursuing his PhD, is a Professional Engineer and the Area Chair for the University of Phoenix/South Florida Campus College of Information Systems and Technology. His is also the founder and President of the Miami Chapter of AFCOM; a professional organization that fosters the education and advancement of professionals in the field of data center design and management.
